Decades without success ended in dramatic style in their final game of the 2012 season. Trailing at home to QPR going into injury time, they levelled before Sergio Aguero scored the winner and they stole the Premier League trophy from under the noses of Manchester United.
They secured a third Premier League title, and a fifth championship in all, in 2017-2018 and wow, they did it in style. Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola a team packed with star players smashed record after record in lifting the title, being the first side to rack up 100 points in a Premier League season.
Their home, the Etihad Stadium, has become a fortress feared by visiting sides. It was originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and then converted to football use so Manchester City could move in, leaving behind their famous Maine Road ground.
Its striking sweeping roofs, held in place by giant masts, are easily seen on the city skyline. As City’s success on the pitch has grown, so has the stadium with an additional tier added to the South Stand.
The stadium is at the centre of the Etihad Campus. The club have invested heavily in training facilities and the academy includes a second mini-stadium used by the club’s women’s side.
City have taken their fans on a rollercoaster ride through the decades, through periods that has seen them dip as low as the third tier of English football. Now they are living the dream.
